Seven Fun and Affordable Halloween Travel Essentials

Are you a fan of Halloween season and looking for some travel must haves? Then you are in the best place. If you love last minute shopping during spooky season, then you’ll love this blog post. What are some of your favorite Halloween travel essentials? Check out my list of Halloween themed essential items you can travel with!

Halloween Travel Essentials

1) Water Bottle

Traveling with a water bottle is extremely important during your trips. It’s easy to become dehydrated and bringing a water bottle makes it easily accessible to refill wherever you are. This water bottle is leak proof and even has hourly reminders to keep you on track. The design is perfect for spooky season too.

2) Luggage

Luggage is always a great investment for your trips but who said it has to be boring? This luggage set by Betsey Johnson is perfect for Halloween but fashionable enough to use all year round. It includes a carry-on bag, plus two bags that can be checked onto the plane. Travel in style on your next vacation.

3) Luggage Tags

Speaking of luggage, make sure yours is secure with a set of luggage tags. On this particular pair, you can add your contact information on them in case your luggage gets lost or someone mixes it up with theirs. It’s the best way to ensure your items can be located.

Halloween Travel Essentials Continued…

4) Makeup Bag

I always carry makeup wherever I go, so having a makeup bag is a necessity. If you’re a Bat fan, then you’ll love this one. It’s unique design is perfect for switching it up from the typical bags everyone else uses this time of year.

5) Travel Pillow

Now I don’t know about you, but when traveling a neck cramp is almost bound to happen. Especially when sitting for a long time. The good news is a travel pillow can help prevent cramps. With this pillow in particular not only can you travel comfortably; you’re sure to impress fellow Halloween lovers.

6) Eye Mask

Want to arrive to your destination feeling well rested? Then you’ll need an eye mask to catch up on your beauty sleep. While you may be resting peacefully, prepare to scare others with this creepy mask which is also great for a fun Halloween prank too. Results may vary so buy at your own leisure.

7) Portable Lunch Bag

I’ve mentioned carrying simple, easy to make snacks here and now you can pack your food away in this lunch bag. The great part about this lunch bag is that it can keep your items warm or cold, it’s easy to clean and carry and can store a good amount of food. Halloween Suggestions

Although this list mostly comprises of travel items you can take with you, keep in mind there’s plenty of things to do during Halloween. You can visit a haunted house, a haunted mansion, and theme parks. If that isn’t your style, you can go on a scavenger hunt or even wear a Halloween costume. Saint Patrick’s Day History

St. Patrick’s Day (which is March 17th) is simultaneously celebrated for the death of Saint Patrick and the Feast of Saint Patrick. What’s even more interesting about this holiday is that its origin was actually religious in nature with feasts included in the celebration. Saint Patrick converted the Irish to Christianity once he returned to Ireland from escaping. The holiday began in Ireland and is now widely celebrated in the United States. Now let’s talk about how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in NY.

Parades and Museums

The New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade

There’s no way I could talk about this holiday without mentioning the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City. This is one of the oldest parades worldwide which takes place on the official holiday of March 17^th with months of preparation. Not only is it one of the oldest, but it’s also one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the Big Apple.

If you’re interested in attending and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in NY, you can catch the parade route at the beginning from 5th Avenue at East 44th Street and the parade ends at 79th Street. At the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade you can expect to learn about Irish culture, Irish heritage, and see Irish dancers and Irish families. Whether it’s your first parade or seventh, you’ll be sure to have a good time. If you can’t attend in person you can also watch a livestream of the event. Also, as an FYI, Fifth Avenue has a plethora of options for shopping if you’re up for it after or prior to the NYC parade.

Irish American Heritage Museum

Exploring the Irish American Heritage Museum is a great option to learn more about Irish ancestry and their history in America. Located in Albany, New York about 2 to 3 hours away if you’re looking to explore beyond New York City. The museum offers plenty of exhibitions and learning opportunities; it’s hours are Wednesday-Friday 11am-4pm, Saturday-Sunday 12pm-4pm, and closed Monday and Tuesday.

You can become a member of the museum or donate to help the organization. If you’d prefer a museum directly in the city feel free to check out the Tenement Museum. These are great options if you’d like a sober St. Patrick’s Day.

Irish Bars and Restaurants to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in NY

O’Donoghue’s Bar & Restaurant Times Square

Looking for Irish fare, live Irish tunes, and a place to unwind? Check out O’Donoghue’s in Times Square. This is a great Irish bar and restaurant that offers delicious Irish/American cuisine right in the heart of the Theater District and it’s perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner.

O’Donoghue’s also serves brunch on the weekends so this is another option if you aren’t able to dine during the week. The menu includes Irish classics and traditional dishes such as corned beef and bangers & mash. Since you’ll already be in Times Square, this would be a great time to take a Broadway Tour to learn all about the behind the scenes details of Broadway from an actual Broadway performer. Keep in mind there’s plenty to do in Times Square check out the links below.

The Irish American

If you’re looking for local bars to hang out with New Yorkers and tourists alike, then you’d want to check out The Irish American Pub on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This Irish pub offers tasty Irish coffees, Irish whiskey (if you’re into whiskey shots), draft brews, and Guinness to name a few. There are other delectable items on the menu if you’re not into spirits.

Looking to bring out your competitive side? How about playing pool, table tennis, air hockey, or Pacman to name a few. If games aren’t your thing, you can also show off your singing voice (whether good or bad) during Karaoke, eat at the restaurant, or you can also watch games on one of the many TV’s. Once you’ve had your fill of delicious noms, since you’ll be on the Lower East Side, how about checking out this Contemporary Art Tour with an NYC critic.

If you’re looking forward to partying, there are plenty of options in NYC even if it’s your first time visiting. However; if partying isn’t your thing no worries, I have more more up my sleeve. Looking for more unique ideas to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in NY? How about taking a St. Patrick’s Day Brunch Cruise with unlimited green beer and a live bagpiper? This is a great experience with St. Patrick’s Day themed food and drink PLUS you’ll get to catch the most amazing views of NYC including the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan Skyline.

Five Spectacular Valentine’s Day Getaway Ideas You Can Travel to Now

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for a romantic Valentine’s getaway with your loved one. Or if you’re single, you could take a girls trip with your best friends to celebrate. Without further ado, allow me to share fresh picks of the best cities and the best places to visit in the United States for Valentine’s Day travel.

1. San Francisco, California (West Coast Getaway)

A Valentine’s Day getaway in California is an absolute must. I mean how couldn’t it be? California is the perfect place with its lush greenery and picturesque palm trees. While visiting, I took a wine tour which included wine tasting in both Napa Valley and Sonoma with a stop at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

Another great option if you aren’t into wine is to take a bus tour of San Francisco. This was a great experience and it’s perfect for learning more about The Golden State. If you’re into nature and natural beauty, how about visiting one of CA’s many national parks? There are nine in total to choose from including Lake Tahoe (border of CA and NV). The best part about all of the activities mentioned is that it’s perfect for couples and friends alike.

Just an FYI if you plan on visiting San Francisco in February the temperature will be in the 60’s for the high and 40’s for the low. The first time I visited I had to purchase a jacket to keep warm. Looking for outfit suggestions to wear on the wine tour? How about a jumpsuit? That’s what I wore and is pictured below. The options in CA are endless too, you can always visit Los Angeles or San Diego if you have free time to explore the state, it’s up to you.

2. Miami, Florida (Southern Getaway)

Miami is a great Valentine’s Day vacation spot for its warm weather and perfect for a quick weekend trip; it’s a romantic place where you can stay in a boutique hotel, experience plenty of culture, and an avid nightlife. Looking for ways to impress your loved one? How about booking a private plane tour of the city? This tour showcases excellent views of The Sunshine State.

Want to spend quality time with friends? How about taking a Little Havana walking tour? If you didn’t know, Miami has a large Cuban population. This is a great opportunity to learn more and expand your horizons. Miami is just an awesome time overall so I’m sure you’ll have fun exploring the city.

The weather will be a lot warmer in Miami this time of year with the high’s typically in the mid 70’s and low’s in the mid 60’s. It is the ultimate romantic escape. However if Miami is not for you, Florida offers a bunch of other cities to explore which makes it the ideal destination. You can easily take a day trip or romantic weekend getaway to Orlando, or the Florida Keys. Florida has beautiful beaches so make sure to pack a bathing suit, sunscreen, and beach hat for the ultimate relaxation experience.

3. New Orleans, Louisiana (Gulf Coast Getaway)

When doing research on Valentine’s Day travel ideas I knew I wanted to include New Orleans. New Orleans has a rich history including cobblestone streets, Bourbon Street, delicious food (be sure to check out local restaurants), and it’s known for being the jazz capital of the world. Speaking of jazz, why not dance the night away with your spouse or friends on this jazz cruise? You’re bound to have a wonderful evening.

In the mood to be spooked so you’ll have a reason to cuddle at night? Then you’ll want to take this out of the box Cemetery tour in the bustling French Quarter. If you take this tour, be prepared to be scared silly with tales of paranormal activity and spooky graveyards. This list isn’t conclusive. New Orleans has a plethora of activities for any traveler.

New Orleans can be pretty chilly in February with highs in the 60’s-70’s and lows in the 40’s to 50’s but you won’t even notice with all of the exploring you’ll be doing. Just be prepared to dress warm for the weather. New Orleans is a vibrant romantic city that everyone raves about once they have gone.

4. Tucson, Arizona (West Coast Getaway)

When seeking a romantic getaway, the desert might not cross your mind but I’m here to tell you it should. Tucson is one of the most romantic places to travel to and is perfect for either a short trip or weeklong vacation. While visiting, I was able to go to the Tucson Botanical Garden (pictured below) which has plenty of foliage native to the area. The best way to explore Tucson is to take a bike tour where you can view different neighborhoods and murals. This is a great way to exercise and explore the area with your friends or partner on Valentine’s Day.

Interested in taking in spectacular views from the highest point in the Santa Catalina Mountains? Then you’ll want to visit Mount Lemmon. This tour is the perfect opportunity to hike and make memorable experiences with your loved ones.

If you are looking for a more relaxing Valentine’s getaway, then you can always book one of the many luxury hotels in Tucson. Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort is a 4 star boutique property. The boutique is a great place for a dip in one of their hot tubs or to book a couples massage.

If you’re in the mood for a quick road trip, one of the best things you can do is visit Phoenix which is less than two hours away from Tucson. Winter is actually a great time to visit Tucson because it’s not as hot. The weather is a lot more tolerable with temps ranging in the 60’s-70 and lows in the 40’s-50.

5. New York City, NY (East Coast Getaway)

I’m sure you knew it was coming, but how could I not include a better place than NYC? NYC is one of the best destinations because it has plenty of romantic things to do and romantic spots to frequent. Not to mention, NYC is also one of the most romantic cities.

Manhattan is a short drive for me so accessing these locations are pretty seamless. However, if you’re visiting for the first time you can rely on NYC public transportation, Uber/Lyft, or the yellow cab to get around. One of the most romantic things to do in NYC is to take a carriage ride in Central Park. Central Park is one of the most beautiful places in NYC and this tour includes blankets to keep you warm and toasty. Keep in mind NYC will be cold, so make sure to purchase a winter coat, gloves, and hat.

New York City Getaway Continued

NYC is a not only a popular place, but it’s a city that is perfect for taking long walks during Valentine’s Day or any day really. I can’t think of a better way to explore if you’re looking for outdoor activities to bond with your partner or friend. Are you and your partner (or friend) into art? Then how about visiting one of my favorite museums the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)? This tour will allow you to skip the line and get straight to viewing art collections.

There are so many ideas of ways to spend your Valentine’s Day in NYC such as checking out one of the many popular attractions, rooftop bars, famous landmarks, or even just having a romantic dinner. Top 5 Christmas Markets to Visit Now in the US

Oftentimes when I think of Christmas markets, I think of Europe. How about you? If you agree, I’m pleased to announce that some of the best and most beautiful Christmas markets can also be found in the USA during holiday season. In fact, I’d even go as far to say that many of the best Christmas markets in the world can be found in the US. Without further ado, allow me to share some of my favorite markets with you that I can’t wait to visit and some that I have already visited. They aren’t in any particular order. Read on for more!

1) Atlanta Christkindl Market

First on the list is the Atlanta Christkindl Market which is a German market within The Buckhead Village District. This market takes place in you guessed it…Atlanta, Georgia during Christmas time. This market is is not only a great place to get into the holiday spirit, but they also serve delicious German food and beverages.

You can also do some major shopping with more than 50 vendors, sample local foods, and snap a couple of pics with Santa to complete the holiday tradition. The market operates from November 26^th, 2021-January 2^nd, 2022 Monday-Thursday from 11:30am-9:30pm, Friday and Saturday from 11:30am-10:30pm, and Sunday from 11:30am-9:30pm (It will be closed Christmas Day).

One of the best parts about this market is that the admission is free and there’s a plethora of convenient parking options available. Atlanta Christkindl Market — *Latkes stand*

2) Cambria Christmas Market

Second on the list is the Cambria Christmas Market located in Cambria, California. What makes this Christmas market so special is that they have 2 million Christmas lights and just from looking at the pictures alone, it’s truly a sight to see. Visiting this market gives you the opportunity to support the local artisans, buy unique gifts, sample delicious food and warm drinks. If you like hot apple cider, then you must experience the German hot spiced wine.

If you’re interested in staying longer than one visit, you can book a room at the Cambria Pines Lodge and eat a special themed dinner. The Christmas market dates are currently open from November 26^th, 2021-December 23^rd, 2021 from 5pm-8:30pm and complimentary shuttles are offered from the parking lot. Parking is available on a first come first serve basis. More information can be found here. If you enjoyed the hot spiced wine, then you’ll definitely enjoy this hop-on, hop-off wine tasting tour which covers 70 wineries.

3) Bank of America Winter Village (Christmas Market) at Bryant Park

Now there was absolutely no way I could make a list of Christmas markets without including my hometown of NYC. Third on the list is the Christmas market (or Winter Village) at Bryant Park which is one of the most popular Christmas markets and is SO fun! There is a lot to do here including free ice skating at The Rink (you will need to bring your own skates and back pack), and delicious food options including one of my favorite pop-up shops Wafels and Dinges for hot Belgian waffles and hot chocolate.

This is an open space market where you can not only shop local and more, but you can watch the skaters at the skating rink if you’re not quite up to getting on the ice rink. The shops are open from 11am-8pm, and are open from now until January 2^nd, 2022. The shops will close by 4pm on January 2^nd.

Just an FYI, Bryant Park is a great NYC destination all year round as there is always something going on. You won’t regret visiting any time of the year, especially during Christmas. Parking in the city can be quite difficult if you aren’t using a parking garage, so I would highly recommend public transportation.

Read more about the Bank of America Winter Village here. Admission is also free; you only pay for the activities and food. Still feeling festive? How about taking a Christmas holiday walking tour which includes some of the best Christmas sights in New York City. This tour is perfect for New Yorkers or tourists alike, but if you’d prefer to explore on your own you can take a short walk to Central Park. Even though I’m not a fan of cold weather, this is one of those Christmas traditions I really enjoy. Come to think of it, this is one of the first Christmas markets I’ve visited.

Friends at The Rink at Bryant Park Christmas Village — *Bryant Park Winter Village*

4) Christmas Village in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a cool city in the winter months and The Christmas Village in Philadelphia is no exception to the rule due to it’s festive atmosphere. This is my fourth recommendation and it is an outside German Christmas market with a historic carousel and Ferris wheel you can actually ride. This market has a large selection of savory treats, and drink options including beer, raclette stube, pretzels, and cider to name a few.

There’s plenty of shopping to keep you warm as you peruse the market as well. The Christmas village is currently open starting from November 25^th, 2021-December 24^th, 2021 and the hours of operation are from Sunday-Thursday 11am-7pm, Friday & Saturday from 11am-8pm, and Christmas Eve 11am-5pm. Parking is also difficult in PA, so I would suggest utilizing a parking garage or public transportation. Admission is free; you only pay for food, drink, shopping, and activities you partake in. Check out more general information here. In addition to visiting the market, did you know Philadelphia is a very popular city? Taking a bus tour is the perfect place to learn all about its history.

5) European Christmas Market at Union Depot in Saint Paul, MN

Last but definitely not least, is the fifth recommendation on my list; the European Christmas Market in MN. This market aims to preserve and share European culture while serving delicious food, and hand crafted items. This is a free event so you’ll only pay for food, and items purchased while holiday shopping. If that alone doesn’t entice you, then you’ll be thrilled to know that there are different kinds of entertainment scheduled on each day the market is open, just refer to the calendar.

The market is officially open starting from starting from late November to the end of the year (November 26^th, 2021-December 19^th, 2021) and is only open on the weekends on Friday 4pm-9pm, Saturday 10am-8pm, and Sunday 11am-6pm. There’s plenty of parking available at this location so you won’t have to worry. Check it out for yourself here. Minnesota is not only a good place to visit, but it also has a great culinary scene. Aside from visiting this awesome market, how about checking out a food tour featuring delicious eats downtown? You wont regret it.

These locations will be very cold when and if you decide to visit. I would recommend wearing a really warm scarf, hat, gloves, coat, and winter boots to help keep you warm and toasty.

The holidays are a great time to travel and Thanksgiving is no exception to the rule. You may be wondering where to travel on or around Thanksgiving. Today I’m going to cover NYC and the best tour ideas to make your trip to the Big Apple memorable. After all, NYC is one of the best Thanksgiving travel destinations; (The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade draws a huge amount of spectators from across the globe each year). Hudson Yards, the Vessel

First on the list is Hudson Yards. The Vessel sculpture at Hudson Yards is honestly one of a kind. It’s a must see structure that will truly amaze you in person. If you’re someone who likes adventure and climbing, this tour is for you. I had so much fun exploring the Vessel plus Hudson Yards is a great area to grab food and drinks. If you’re interested in shopping you can do that too. What makes this tour a great deal, is that it also includes the Highline. The Highline is built on a historic freight rail available to the public. Book this tour here.

Manhattan Sky Tour, New York City Helicopter Flight

Second on the list is to take a Helicopter ride overlooking NYC. Now I know what you’re thinking; “you’ve mentioned this before!” While this may be true, I cannot stress enough how fun and invigorating this tour is. I went on a helicopter ride for the first time a few years ago to celebrate my birthday with my sister and it’s still an experience I cherish to this day. Private New York City Food Tour of East Village and Greenwich Village

If heights aren’t your thing, third on the list is a walking food tour that includes both the East Village and Greenwich Village. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to indulge in good eats and what makes this tour even better is that you get to experience delicious food you don’t have to spend all day preparing. Fourth on the list is a trip to Niagara Falls. I just love upstate New York; its beauty is truly unmatched and you know what’s even better? Soho, Chinatown, and Little Italy Tour

Last but definitely not least is a tour of some of NYC’s most popular areas: Soho, Chinatown, and Little Italy. Out of these three, Chinatown is probably my favorite with Little Italy second, and Soho third. However, each neighborhood has their own charm and you get to discover that for yourself. This tour includes stops along the way for you to take pictures, and grab some delicious noms. I’d highly recommend this tour if you’re not familiar with traversing the city, as this tour will cover a lot of ground with an experienced guide. Read more here to book this experience.

As many of you (hopefully) know, February is Black History Month. This compelled me to write a blog post sharing helpful ways you can patronize both small (and large) black businesses, and travel destinations. The best part about this list is that it includes black museums, black destinations, black landmarks, and black owned restaurants. These locations only scratch the surface as there are plenty of black business owners to support so keep this in mind and do your part. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Martin Luther King Jr., Memorial

I’ve talked about my love for Martin Luther King Jr before. It’s not hard to find inspiration when hearing many of the contributions MLK Jr. has done for African Americans. 1). Seasoned Vegan

I was fortunate enough to be able to dine at Seasoned Vegan which serves delicious vegan soul food with global inspired flavors located in Harlem, NY. The food is mouthwatering and the service is top notch!

2). Amy Ruth’s

Amy Ruth’s is a staple in Harlem for delicious soul food. I’ve eaten here so many times with friends I can’t even keep track.

Black Owned Restaurants in Texas

It’s no secret that I traveled to Texas for work and did some heavy exploring on my days off. From Houston, to San Antonio, to Austin, you name it, I was there! I ate very well in Texas so I’m here to give you all of the deets.

1). Sassy’s Food Truck (Permanently Closed Unfortunately)

Okay so technically Sassy’s isn’t a restaurant, BUT it was amazing for those of us who are willing to take our food on the go or sit in a designated area outside. Sassy’s was a vegetarian soul food truck located in Austin, TX and was a must visit if you were in the area. I hope they are able to reopen one day. 2). Mikkis Soul Food Café

When I first arrived at Mikki’s I noticed that there was an extremely long line (this is usually a positive sign that the food will be good). I was happy to say it was well worth the wait; I highly recommend going if you’re in the Houston area. It’s popular among locals and celebrities alike.

Museums of Black History

There is so much to be learned about black history and going to a museum is one of the best ways to educate yourself. Going to museums are kind of my thing, so I’d like to share some of my favorites that are bound to amaze you.

Black History Museums in Washington D.C.

Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture

This museum is honestly breathtaking! I was entranced by all of the exhibitions and collections and I’m sure you will be too. It’s so important to learn about history and ways we as people can evolve. Don’t miss this museum if you’re in the D.C. area!

Black History Museums in Houston

Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC)

The Houston Museum of African American Culture blew me away with its artwork and statement pieces. I’ve talked about my love for this museum, but honestly you just have to see it in person. Your ticket for admission helps, but feel free to provide donations as well as purchase artwork and other items while attending.

Black History Museums in Atlanta

APEX Museum

I have recently visited the APEX Museum during my trip to Atlanta and what makes this museum so special is that it tells history from the black perspective. Not to mention it’s the oldest black history museum in Atlanta. I plan on re-visiting and taking this tour which includes The Center for Civil and Human Rights. Atlanta has a lot to offer so check out some of the things to do below.

This is another museum on my must see list. The Studio Museum in Harlem is a museum that showcases art from people of African descent. Martha’s Vineyard

In my blog post about The Best U.S. Destinations for Thanksgiving, I briefly talked about my love for Martha’s Vineyard but I didn’t go into details why (aside from visiting family in MA). Martha’s Vineyard has an African American population due to its history. Many slaves formed residences in Martha’s Vineyard (Oaks Bluffs) before it eventually became known as a resort town. Eventually affluent and middle class African Americans moved here including the most notable President Obama and Michelle Obama. I would highly recommend visiting Martha’s Vineyard and taking this tour which showcases the islands history and culture once travel is safe to do so again.

The Best U.S. Destinations for Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I decided to put together a last minute list of U.S. cities for Thanksgiving travel that really get into the holiday spirit. Have you traveled to any of these destinations? Read more to find out!

New York, New York

First up on the list is my hometown NYC. How could I not mention New York which is known for its holiday decorations? The annual Macy’s Day Parade is a must see in NYC. However, if you’d rather watch it on TV or online that is an option as well. If you don’t mind heights you can’t go wrong visiting the Empire State Building; the views alone will make you fall in love with New York (which isn’t hard to do). Or how about a sunset cruise in NY? I LOVE taking a cruise around the city and they’re just as enjoyable in the Fall.

Greenville, South Carolina

I’ve really enjoyed my time in Greenville, South Carolina. Greenville has an old charm feel, as well as a new school vibe. It is known for Fall for Greenville which happens every October along with various other events throughout the fall season.

After eating all of that delicious (but heavy) Thanksgiving grub, how about trying something active? If you’re feeling adventurous rock climbing may be straight up your alley. This is a great introduction to rock climbing, where you’ll learn all of the basics. If rock climbing isn’t your thing, how about a cocktail tour? I mentioned going on my first wine tour and had a blast, so this would be great as well. It’s the holidays why not have a drink or two? You’ll learn all about Greenville’s culinary scene as well as sample a few different cocktails.

Orlando, Florida

I love Orlando, and I’ve shared my trip here at Universal Studios among other sites I had the opportunity to check out. You can easily feast on a Thanksgiving meal at Disney World, or get into the holiday spirit at Universal Orlando. If you’re looking for a newer theme park-esque experience, I’ve got you covered. How about getting an aerial view of the parks? A helicopter tour would be great, (especially at night) to really get great views and all of the deets on the sights you’re viewing. Love learning and experiencing wildlife? Then an escape to Florida’s wilderness is right up your alley.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Massachusetts is another favorite place of mine to travel and for good reason. Besides visiting family, you can visit Martha’s Vineyard, or Nantucket which are both dreamy and have a plethora of things to do (e.g..; beaches, dining, and shopping). That being said, did you know Thanksgiving originated in Massachusetts? It did! Why not celebrate where the origins of this holiday took place? After celebrating, a challenging (but fun) scavenger hunt would be great to partake in. A big part of Thanksgiving for most is cranberry sauce, well why not learn about jellies and wines during this wine and sauce tasting tour? You’ll also get an etched glass to remember this experience.

Las Vegas, Nevada

I’ve visited Las Vegas in both the summer and winter, and I’ve had a great time in both seasons. You can expect less crowds as the seasons change, and plenty to do! Vegas is pretty much busy all day, but it really gets going at night. Why not see the city come to life and take a Las Vegas Night Tour? You’ll learn all about LV, and you can hop on and off at any time.

Since we’re on the West Coast, why not take a day trip and visit the Grand Canyon? If you’re running short on time, how about something adventurous like ATV riding? Riding ATV’s are extremely fun, but as always just be cautious if you decide to do this experience. There’s no way I could talk about Vegas and not mention seeing a comedy show. Seeing shows in LV, is one of my favorite things to do, and hopefully it will become yours too!

Christmas/Birthday Time!

Hello everyone, thank you for your continued support and for staying tuned in! December is a very special month for me not only because of Christmas, but also because of my birthday.

That being said, I decided to switch things up in lieu of the holidays from my travel posts to give you a little insight into how I celebrated the holidays now vs. then. What I eat during the holidays, to some of the decorations we’ve put up, and what I’d like in my stocking stuffer. I’ll also mention cool ideas of how to spend your holiday, and some of my birthday looks over the years.

Christmas as an adult vs. Christmas as a child

To be truthful, I have to say that there hasn’t been much of a change in how I spend Christmas now vs. then. I will say that a major difference is no longer waking up to multiple gifts under the tree, and staying up all night to open presents once the day actually arrived.

A tradition that has stood the test of time is definitely Christmas dinner, and putting up the Christmas tree. I really appreciate and love time spent with family.

Noms during the holidays|Decorations

Food is a big production in my family and the holidays are no exception to the rule. Typically during Christmas, we try to switch up the menu and have things that we didn’t already eat at Thanksgiving.

For instance, if we had a whole roasted chicken for Thanksgiving, we’ll have Cornish hens for Christmas. If there were macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving, Christmas we’ll have lasagna etc. We don’t always abide by these rules, and there are some items that are staples that we MUST have. Oxtail is one of them as well as Escovitch fish.

In regards to decorations during the holidays occasionally we’ll put up Christmas lights, but an absolute must would be the Christmas tree. The type of Christmas tree we’ve had over the years has changed. Sometimes we’ll use a faux one even having an all-white Christmas tree to switch things up. The favorite amongst everyone though, would be a real Christmas tree; It just smells and looks better.

Stocking Stuffers

I’m pretty simple with gifts I like to receive and give during Christmas and my birthday. I consider myself a practical person, so I like gifts that I can use in some way. In this day and age digital photos are all the rage, but I still like the look and feel of actual pictures. My friends know I’m big on taking pictures not because I’m vain, but because I like to have memories. I’ve been a picture junkie since forever, and like to keep photo albums. Some of the old school photos of myself and my friends would make us cringe at the fashions (or lack thereof lol), but it brings us back to a much simpler time in life. If you’re wondering what to buy someone who also likes to print their pictures, here’s an idea and here’s one more.

What to do during the holidays

I switch my location a lot, but I primarily try to spend the holidays in NYC. NYC has a plethora of options when it comes down to things to do. You’d be living under a rock if you didn’t know about Rockefeller Center and the Christmas tree. I’ve gone to the see the tree many times as a child, and since I used to work in the city, I would pass the tree all the time.

A great thing to do besides visit the tree, is go ice skating in Bryant Park. More info here. My friends and I went together and we had a lot of fun. After skating, I just have to have a waffle from the Wafels and Dinges truck/kiosk. You do not want to miss trying one of these scrumptious morsels! My personal favorite is the regular waffle with the rich and decadent Spekuloos and powdered sugar topping.

If skating isn’t your thing and you’re into history, NYC brings out the old school trains they used back in the day. It’s called the Holiday Nostalgia ride where vintage train cars are temporarily back in service. It’s the same cost to ride a regular train, but you do have to catch it at a specific time. Birthday Looks|Fun!

My birthday falls right in the middle of the holiday season immediately after Christmas, with the official start of Kwanzaa first, and then New Year’s Eve and Day following right after. Did you figure out what day it is? ☺ let me know in the comments.

I tend to make my birthday celebration a big deal, I mean why not? It’s a day where you can splurge and pamper yourself (although you can honestly do this whenever).

That being said, some of the things I like and have done in the past was to see a Broadway show, take a helicopter plane ride, have dinner with friends and family, or even something low-key like hit up a spa. The possibilities and ideas are endless, and I’m always looking to do things that I’ve never done before.
